Honoria Starbuck, Ph.D.
Teaching Artist

My inspiration flows from the history of art beginning with prehistoric cave art. Using art history as a starting point, I explore color, shape, narrative, and the infinite ways in which art materials can interact.

International Artist
I have been and active artist in the global Mail Art Network since 1989. As a mail artist my work has been shown in art festivals, Mail Art congresses, museums, galleries, and private settings around the world including in the Venice Biennale.

Teaching
My teaching philosophy is to energize students by starting from their interests, such as video games, fashion, and animations. Together we explore contemporary trends compared to art historical examples to find time-tested lessons that align with student goals.

Creative Process
My process engages chance and unexpected connections based on art historical contexts, contemporary experiences, and the manipulation of a variety of materials. My works are gestural and calligraphic painting in watercolor, India ink, collage, rubber stamps, text and acrylics. My media includes digital drawing tools on the iPad.

In summary, I explore and share creative visions with my students, within the Mail Art network and on the web through this website, ArtStation, Facebook, and Instagram.
